Are you prepared?

Keep an eye on the weather.

Pierce County residents are asked to be weather aware and to begin making plans for the potential of a hurricane passing through the area late tonight and tomorrow.

Blake James, Pierce County’s Public Safety Director, said the forecast track of the potential system will determine

what weather impacts — if any — occur locally.

During a briefing just prior to press time, James said computer modeling shows a disturbance in the Carribean Sea entering the Gulf of Mexico and rapidly strengthening as it makes a run toward Florida’s gulf coast.

Some models project impacts from a major hurricane.

Pierce County impacts could include heavy rain, high winds, downed trees and power outages and possible tornadoes.

“This track may still change as we have seen many times before, but we do need to keep an eye on it and begin making plans,” James said.

Updates will be shared via The Times’ Facebook page as conditions warrant.
