Sarah Gove, Retired Command Sergeant Major Ruben Mulkey and Angel Knowlton (l-r) pause for a photo at Mulkey’s September 11 Remembrance at last week’s Blackshear Rotary Club meeting. Like many Americans, Mulkey recalled where he was that day 23 years ago. Mulkey reminded club members of our collective responsibility to ensure the next generation understands the bravery and sacrifice made by so many that day and in the days that followed, cautioning the club not to forget the historical impact of the 9/11 attack on U.S. soil. Mulkey retired from the Army in 2017 and returned home to Pierce County. During his military career, he was stationed first at Ft. Bragg and then in Germany. Mulkey served during Desert Storm and retired as an Army recruiter. Better Hometown Manager Bethany Strickland also attended the club meeting to provide information on this year’s Veterans Day program and lunch. For several years, the Rotary Club has supported Blackshear’s Veterans Day activities.
