Tomlinson tosses one-hitter in 8-0 region win over Crisp Co.

BEARVILLE — Pierce County climbed above the .500 mark winning its only game of the week with an 8-0 blanking of visiting Region 3 foe Crisp County.

PCHS (8-7 overall, 2-1 region) “mercy ruled” the Lady Cougars Tuesday (September 10) afternoon in the only game of the week.

Thursday’s (September 12) matchup in Adel against third-ranked region foe Cook was postponed. The game has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 1 with the Lady Hornets making the return trip Wednesday, October 2.

The Lady Bears played at Tattnall County (Tuesday, September 17). Toranked Appling County is scheduled to visit Thursday, September 19.

PCHS goes to Class A fifth-ranked Toombs County Monday, September 23 and to Crisp County Thursday, September 26.

Taylor Tomlinson twirled a one-hit shutout and a hit a two-run homer leading PCHS past the Lady Cougars.

Tomlinson needed just 62 pitches in the five-inning, route-going performance. The hit came with two outs in the third. She fanned four, walked one and hit two batters.

Tomlinson (2-for-3) blasted a two-out, two-run homer to center in the first inning for a 2-0 lead. The roundtripper came one pitch after a Alyssa Crump (2-for-3) kept the inning alive with a single.

The Lady Bears added single runs in the second and fourth innings to extend their margin to 4-0. They ended the game plating four runs in the fifth.

Lanie Mae (1-for-2) scored the run in the second inning, following a two-out single to left and a twobase fielding error to reach third. Bella Delaney (1-for-2) dropped down a bunt, scoring Mae for a 3-0 advantage.

Carson Sloan (1-for-3) led off the fourth reaching on an error. She advanced around to third on a fielder’s choice groundout and sacrifice bunt. Delaney executed a second straight run-scoring bunt to plate Sloan upping the lead to 4-0.

PCHS opened the fifth with backto- back singles by Crump and Tomlinson, who was replaced by courtesy-runner Eva Horne. Kaylee Figeuroa (1-for-2) followed with a first-pitch, two-run double for a 6-0 advantage.

After Gracie Corbitt was hit, Sloan lined a run-scoring single with both Corbitt and Sloan advancing an extra base on the throw to the plate. Mai’s one-out sacrifice fly plated Corbitt with the game-ending run.
