ALMA — Lawton Wright scored two touchdowns and the Pierce County Middle School defense registered a second straight shutout beating Bacon County Middle School 30-0 here on a wet Wednesday afternoon.

The Bears (3-0), who limited Brantley County Middle School to minus-9 nine yards of offense a week earlier, surrendered just 19 yards to BCMS in the September 11 Southeast Georgia Middle School Athletic Conference matchup.

Pierce Middle has allowed one touchdown and 112 yards of total offense in its three wins.

Meanwhile, the Pierce Middle offense piled up 237 yards, all on the ground, on 18 attempts divided amongst six ball carriers.

PCMS failed to recover the opening kick, the first of two turnovers, with the Red Raiders unable to take advantage of the mistake punting the ball away to the Bears’ 22.

Pierce Middle needed five plays to cover the 78 yards with Wright (three carries, 84 yards) scoring his first touchdown on a 49-yard run. Jayme Perez (five carries, 91 yards) ran in the two-point conversion for an 8-0 lead.

Following a second defensive stop and Bacon Middle punt, PCMS needed two plays to score from 75 yards away. Perez bolted for a 49-yard gain with Wright covering the final 26 yards on the first play of the second period. The two-point conversion failed leaving the Bears with a 14-0 lead.

A third Bacon Middle possession ended with a punt and turnover by the Bears. The Red Raiders returned the favor one play later with Pierce Middle taking over at the BCMS 32.

Ja’shun Faison (five carries, 54 yards) scored on the second snap racing 31 yards for the touchdown. The successful two-point conversion gave PCMS a 220 advantage at intermission.

Pierce Middle’s final score came with 1:34 left in the rain-drenched third quarter. Perez scampered 14 yards with Dathan Thornton (two carries, 12 yards) converting the two-point conversion for a 30-0 lead.

The final period was played under the “mercy rule.”
