Ellie Latrelle ‘Sug’ Barnard Stanfield

Ellie Latrelle “Sug” Barnard Stanfield, 93, of Patterson, passed away Sunday morning, September 8, 2024, at Magnolia Manor Senior Living Center on St. Simons Island.

Born in Patterson October 4, 1930, she lived in Pierce County most of her life. She was a 1948 graduate of Patterson High School. She and her husband made their home in Patterson with the exception of when they lived in St. Croix while Mr. Stanfield was working as the project manager responsible for building schools. She was a homemaker and had also helped on the family farm, but raising her family and helping to take care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her the most joy. She enjoyed cooking, canning and gardening. She was a longtime member of Patterson Baptist Church where she was in the Joy Sunday School Class.

She was a daughter of the late James Pratt Sr. and Miriam Alma Dixon Barnard. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Lewis Stanfield Jr.; her son and daughter-in-law, Raymond L. Jr. and Pam Stanfield; her sister, Thedius Barnard Clough and both of her brothers, James Pratt “J.P” Barnard, Jr. and Jasper Bernard “Bernie” Barnard.

Survivors include two daughters, Brenda Rowland and Margaret Stanfield, both of St. Simons Island; her sister-in-law, Sheila Barnard, Blythe Island; her aunt, Laverne Parker, Patterson; four grandchildren, Brittany (Kevin) Crotty, Emily (Michael) Hughes, Brooke Cosby, and Ellen (Brad) Arington; 10 great-grandchildren, Drew and Ellie Crotty, Sam and Sawyer Hughes, Charlie Cosby and Grady Gunn and Grayson, Hadley, Jones and Dixon Arington; a special caregiver, Donna Gardner, Brunswick and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, at Patterson Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Sept. 11, from Patterson Baptist Church with the Rev. R. C. James and Kevin Crotty officiating.

Interment will be in the Patterson Cemetery.

The family kindly requests members of the Joy Sunday school class to serve as honorary pall bearers. They are asked to please meet at the church by 10:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The family would like to say a special thank you to the staff of Magnolia Manor for their care and compassion shown to Mrs. Stanfield while in their care. The family kindly requests memorials be made to the Patterson Baptist Church, PO Box 385, Patterson, GA 31557 or to Hospice of the Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.
