Pierce County split its two softball games with two others canceled because of inclement weather.
The Lady Bears (7-7) won for the second time in three games after dropping four of five doubling up visiting Charlton County 10-5 at home Wednesday, September 4. Class 5A Coffee followed a day later with a 3-2 victory in Douglas over PCHS.
Saturday’s Diamond Day tripleheader with Miller County and Lanier County visiting was canceled.
PCHS’s next four games are Region 3-AA matchups. The Lady Bears hosted Crisp County Tuesday, September 10. They travel Thursday, September 12 to Cook and Tuesday, September 17 to Tattnall County. Top-ranked Appling County visits Thursday, September 19.

BEARVILLE — Pierce County plated five first inning runs for the early lead and then played the Indian Maidens on even terms over the next six innings to get the win.
Bella Delaney (2-for-4) got the uprising started with an infield hit. She stole second and scored when Lanie Mai’s bunt was thrown away for a two-base error.
After consecutive one-out walks to Gracie Corbitt and Olivia Bennett (1--for-3) loaded the bases, Kaylee Figeuroa (2-for-4, double) delivered a two-run single for a 3-0 lead. Taylor Tomlinson (3-for-3) following with a run-scoring hit upping the margin to 4-0. Parker Sinclair (1-for-3) drove in the final run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.
After Charlton County scored twice in the top of the second to get to within 5-2 against Tomlinson (4 IP, 1 H, 4 R, 2 ER, 3 K, 5 BB, 3 HBP), the Lady Bears responded with a run in the bottom of the inning in building a 6-2 advantage.
Mai reached on a one-out error, stole second and raced to third on an errant throw, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Alyssa Crump.
Each team scored twice in the fourth inning with PCHS maintaining a four-run advantage at 8-4. The Indian Maidens’ runs came via a two-out, two-run homer to cut the deficit to 6-4.
Back-to-back infield hits by Malee Childers (1-for-3) and Delaney to start the inning set up the scoring opportunity. Childers scored on Mai’s sacrifice fly. Delaney, who stole third, scored on Crump’s ensuing sacrifice fly.
Charlton County scored a run in the fifth against Riley Chambless (2 IP, 1 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 K, 0 BB) to make the score 8-5.
PCHS answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. Figeuroa’s one-out double was followed by Tomlinson’s run-scoring single two pitches later. Tomlinson, who reached second on the throw home, raced home on Sinclair’s run-scoring single off a 2-0 pitch.
Carley Sloan worked a 1-2-3 seventh inning for the Lady Bears.

DOUGLAS — Coffee staved off the Lady Bears’ comeback bid for the one-run decision.
The Lady Trojans scored single runs in the first, third and fifth innings against Sloan (6 IP, 8 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 4 K, 1 BB) in building a 3-0 lead.
Coffee scored on a one-out single in the first, a run-scoring single in the third, and a two-out double in the fifth.
PCHS stranded Mai, who reached on a two-out error in the third, Bennett (2-for-3) in the fourth after the Lady Bears’ first hit, and Tomlinson (2-for-3) and Sloan in the fifth.
Pierce County scored twice in the sixth to get to within 3-2. Bennett lined a first-pitch double to start the inning, tagged and moved to third on Crump’s fly ball to center, and scored on Figueroa’s (1-for-3) two-out double. Tomlinson followed two pitches later with a runscoring single.
