Kathryn Joyner Greene, 80, of Blackshear, passed away early Monday morning, August 26, 2024, at Appling Healthcare in Baxley under the care of Comfort Care Hospice.
Born in Jacksonville, FL April 19, 1944, she lived in Waycross as a young child but was reared in Blackshear. She was a resident of Appling County where she raised her girls for many years prior to moving to Savannah then back to Blackshear. She was a 1962 graduate of Blackshear High School and went on to graduate from the Massey Business College in Jacksonville. Over the years she worked as a secretary for several attorneys as well as for Judge Ben Smith. While living in Baxley, she worked for SIP as a bookkeeper. She worked for a printing company in Savannah and once back in Blackshear, she worked for Pearson-Dial Funeral Home as a greeter. She was an excellent cook, baker and enjoyed camping with her family while her girls were young. Blessed with a green thumb, she loved to garden and enjoyed keeping her yard looking well manicured. She also loved to bird watch. She was a devoted daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and dearly loved her family. She considered being a mom to her girls her greatest accomplishment. Over the years she enjoyed volunteering with disaster relief as well as the Pierce County Food Pantry. She was a member of the Blackshear First Baptist Church where she was in the Workers for Christ Sunday school class and helped prepare food for the JOY Group.
She was a daughter of the late John Robert and Mattie Myrene Altman Joyner. She was also preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law, Marilyn and Langford Peace.
