Lillian Ruth Von Zech DuPont

Lillian Ruth Von Zech DuPont, 87, of Patterson, passed away Friday morning, August 30, 2024, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House in Waycross, following an extended illness.

Born February 23, 1937, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Otto Alexander and Elizabeth Jane McCoach Von Zech. She grew up in Philadelphia, moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida for a few years, before making Patterson her home in 1976.

She had worked for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, DuPont

as a waitress for Thom’s Smokehouse in Patterson, as a receptionist for South Georgia Insurance/ Dixon Insurance, and in 1985 was hired as a school secretary for the Pierce County High School, Pierce County Junior High School and eventually Pierce County Middle School, retiring in 2005. Following retirement, she decided to become a substitute teacher for the next 10 years.

A long-time, dedicated member of Patterson Baptist Church, she was fortunate to be able to attend weekly services until just a few months ago. She was one of the oldest attendees of the early contemporary service and was a member of the Grace Sunday School Class. She was also a former Sunday School Director for the Children’s Department, member of the WMU, and started the Widow’s Support Group which she led for 10 years.

Active in her community, she enjoyed being a poll worker for the Pierce County Elections Board and a volunteer at the area blood drives for the American Red Cross.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, George Henry DuPont Jr. and a brother, Otto David Von Zech.

Survivors include her three sons, Jeff DuPont (wife Jody) and John Du-Pont (wife Nina), all of Patterson and Jason DuPont, (fiance, Mary Blue and children Savannah, Miriam, and Joseph), Townsend; grandchildren, Jordan Du-Pont (wife Lane), Waverly, Josie DuPont Goltry (husband Marcus), Jacksonville, FL, Garrett DuPont, Blackshear, Hank DuPont and Jed DuPont, both of Fayetteville and Daniel Du-Pont and Andrew DuPont, both of Patterson; one great-granddaughter, Bennie Row DuPont; sister and brother-in-law, Carol Von Zech Pauze (husband Peter), Ocala, FL; nieces, Denise Heaxt (Rusty), Port Charlotte, FL, and Susan Plump (husband John) and Cindy Monroe (husband Wayne), all of Ocala, FL and several great-nieces, great-nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, from the Patterson Baptist Church.

A private family burial followed in the Patterson Cemetery.

Members of the Patterson Baptist Church Grace Sunday School Class and all former and current employees of the Pierce County School System served as honorary pallbearers.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to the employees of Harborview Pierce County, Memorial Satilla Health, and Hospice Satilla for their love and care shown to Mrs. Lil during the past few months. This long, tough process was made more bearable by each of you.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to be made to Hospice Satilla, 808 Evergreen Way, Waycross, Georgia 31501.
