The Pierce County Bears celebrated homecoming with a 49-7 win over the Brantley County Herons September 23. Kenzie Meeks was crowned homecoming queen at half-time. The Bears are now 5-0 and are scheduled to travel to Appling County this Friday, September 30 (weather permitting). The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
The match-up with Appling will be the 27th regular season meeting between the two programs dating back to September 25, 1992. The Bears are 11-15 overall against Appling but have won the last 4 meetings, including a 20-0 win last season.
Appling County is currently 2-1 this season after defeating Aiken (SC) 42-7 August 26, losing to Wayne County 7-0 September 2 and defeating Moore Haven (FL) 35-17 September 16. A game between Appling and Ware County, scheduled for August 19, was canceled due to weather.
Scoring Recap
The Bears were the first to score on a five-yard run by Jimarion Guyton. Kicker Jonah Allen added the extra point to make the score 7-0 with 8:56 remaining in the first quarter.
The next Bear score was on a two-yard run by DJ Bell to make the score, with the extra point by Allen, 14-0 at the 5:19 mark in the first quarter.
Brantley County opened the scoring for the second quarter on a one-yard run to make the score, with the extra point, 14-7 with 8:43 left in the second quarter.
The Bears answered with a 17-yard run by Guyton. Allen converted the extra point to make the score 21-0 at the 5:48 mark in the second quarter.
Bell was the next to score for the Bears on a 47-yard run. Allen added the extra point to make the score 28-7 with 2:35 remaining in the second quarter.
Guyton scored on a six-yard run to open the second half scoring. Following the extra point by Allen the score was 35-7 at the 8:35 mark in the third quarter.
Bell connected with Guyton on a 52-yard pass to make the score, extra point by Allen, 42-7 with 5:50 left in the third quarter.
Bear JaQuez White added a five-yard run to make the score 49-7, following the extra point by Allen, at the 1:37 mark in the third quarter and that would be the final.
