Is the school board sending a mixed message?
Is our Board of Education sending a mixed message?
Pierce County has one of the best school systems in the state of Georgia. Our educators and administrators are dedicated professionals who are passionate about their students.
Parents and families are constantly encouraged to read with their students every day. It's been proven time and time again that the more a child reads, the better they do in school — and life.
So why, after years of helping fund the library, has the board of education all of a sudden decided to stop?
Why exactly did we go through the messy divorce from Okefenokee Regional Library System and ask Three Rivers Regional Library System to accept us if we knew all along we were not going to help fund them?
What exactly is the board trying to say here? Three Rivers System bylaws will give our local board more independence to decide what is right for our library and our community.
However, by not funding the library are we saying that books and reading are not important?
If excellence is truly our standard then why are some not funding their fair share of our excellent library?
I think we need a real answer. Not a ‘gray’ somewhere in the middle answer but a real honest answer. In the scheme of things $15K dollars is not a huge amount of money – so what is so important that all of a sudden this money can’t be spared for the library?
