A black and white dairy cow has been found and turned in to the sheriff’s office and Sheriff Ramsey Bennett says he is not Ol’ McDonald.
“It looks like the owners have abandoned the cow and it needs a good home,” said the Sheriff.
Bennett said the cow is believed to have once lived in Bristol, but it appears the owners have moved off and left it.
The sheriff’s office has contacted residents near the area and have posted on social media and the sheriff’s app, but have so far been unable to find the owner of the cow. The cow was questioned in relation to the incident, but language was a barrier in the interrogation.
“Our bovine guest can’t tell us where to find his missing owner. It can’t tell us where it lives and it does not have any identifying markings. All he does is moo and bellow, chews cud and eats — a lot,” the sheriff said.
For the record, a public notice is included in this week’s editions of The Times.
No one has come forward to claim the cow.
The cow is currently impounded. An impound fee of $100 and a “room and board” fee of $25 per day will be assessed.
If no one comes forward to claim the cow, it will be offered for sale at a public auction to the highest bidder next week.
Bennett said it is the only the third time in recent memory he can recall the sheriff’s office having to issue a public notice to find the owner of livestock.
A pot-bellied pig was abandoned two months ago near the high school and a brindle cow was discovered wandering around U.S. Highway 84 near Carter’s Body Shop in 2022.
