OATH holding $5 for 5 fundraiser

In honor of their fifth anniversary, the Okefenokee Alliance for the Homeless, Inc. (OATH) is launching a “Fives for Five” campaign, encouraging givers to donate as many “fives” as they are able, whether that is $5, $55, $555, $5,555 or more. Every contribution goes to help some of the most needy in Brantley, Pierce and Ware Counties.

Originally created to fill the service gap that existed for homeless families in the tri-county area. OATH evolved from the work of a grassroots task force established by the Ware Children’s Initiative, a Georgia Family Connection collaborative, in January 2017. The task force brought together faith-based organizations that had never before met or worked together, mainstream agencies that had depended on faithbased help but that never shared ideas or issues, volunteers who were previously homeless, and the three Southeast Georgia counties that were in need but had never had shared discussions on poverty, food insecurity, or safe and secure housing.

In 2019, OATH was recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a tax-exempt charitable organization and held its first board meeting. Niki Spivey was hired as Homeless Navigator, and OATH opened the doors to its office and day center. Since then, OATH has served 1,522 individuals, including 396 children, 959 adults and 167 senior citizens. OATH credits the generosity of individual donors, churches, businesses and other non-profit agencies that support their mission with financial contributions.
