The Best of the Boy Bands will be the theme for the Sound of Silver’s show this year. The band will perform the routine for the 2024-25 football and competition season.
“Our show will feature the best of the boy bands, going back to the Jackson 5, the Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and the Jonas Brothers,” says band director Robert McCoy.
Songs to be performed this year include I'll Be There, ABC, and I Want You Back by the Jackson 5, Sucker by the Jonas Brothers, I Want it That Way by the Backstreet Boys and Bye, Bye, Bye by NSYNC.
The band is under the leadership of McCoy, who is now starting his fifth year with the Sound of Silver. Assistant band director Monica Dockery is in her fourth year. Lori Nystrom returns for her second year as color guard director. Mackenzie Music is this year’s drum major. The band consists of 90 members in grades 9-12.
McCoy says he is happy with the way the band members have showed up and have performed as they prepare for the new year.
The Sound of Silver has performed well in competitions and McCoy says he looks to build on that foundation of success in the coming year.
In addition to preparing for this year’s show, the band is also preparing for its annual “Sound of Silver” Invitational October 5. The Invitational serves as the band’s principal fundraiser for the year. Approximately 20 marching bands are expected to participate in the festival and competition this season.”
