Hazel Bryant King

Hazel Bryant King, 88, died at home Friday, September 9, 2022, under the care of her family and Hospice of South Georgia, Inc., after an extended illness.

A native of Pierce County, she had been a resident of Wayne County for the past 64 years. She was a homemaker until her children were older, then she worked alongside her husband in his Ford Tractor dealership until their retirement in 1988. Before her illness, she enjoyed reading, traveling, going out to eat and being with her family and friends. She was a long time member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and was the most kind hearted, loving mother and Nanny ever.

Her father, Ernest Carroll Bryant (who died when she was an infant), mother, Aletha Lee Bryant Thomas, step-father, Elmer Thomas; her husband, C.L. King; her beloved children, Deborah Kay and Carroll L. King; a brother, Tracy Bryant; a half-sister, Wannell Thomas English and infant half-brother, Gordon Thomas, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include her two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Freddy Swenson and Ann and Dwight Bishop and daughter-in-law, Jackie King, all of Jesup; grandchildren and their spouses, Robert and Torrie Swenson, Chris and Jenny Swenson, Jeff and Caroline Bishop, Russell Bishop, Debbie King and Ashlee Smith; great-grandchildren, Dylan Swenson and wife, Hailey, Brianna Swenson, Katy Bishop, Hailey Bishop, Gianna Swenson and Woody Swenson and a step great-grandson, Christopher Smith; two great -great-granddaughters, Ila Swenson and Raelyn F. Smith; one brother and sister-in-law, Lamar and Oletha Bryant, Patterson and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.

Visitation will be held from 1-2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, at the Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 12, from the chapel of Howard & Jones Funeral Home in Jesup with the Rev. Stanley Todd officiating.

Interment will follow in Ramah Cemetery in Mershon.

Active pallbearers will be Robert Swenson, Chris Swenson, Jeff Bishop, Russell Bishop, Dylan Swenson and Francisco Gomez.  

Honorary pallbearers will be Sandra Gomez, Terry Bryant, David and Valerie Daniels and the staff of Hospice of South Georgia.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Hospice of South Georgia, 1625 Sunset Blvd. Jesup, GA 31545 or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4849 Paulsen St. Suite 103, Savannah, GA 31406.

She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew and loved her. We do find comfort in knowing that she is finally at peace and has been reunited with her loved ones. We want to say a special thank you to her devoted caregiver and friend, Sandra Gomez for all of her assistance to us with her care the past four years. We couldn’t have done it without her.
