Juanita Irene Dixon Boatright, 83, formerly of Blackshear, passed away Saturday afternoon, August 3, 2024, at Community Hospice in Fernandina Beach, Florida.
Born in Blackshear, January 28, 1941, she had lived in Pierce County most of her life before moving to Yulee earlier this year to enjoy her retirement. She was a graduate of the Class of 1959 com.
from Blackshear High School. She had worked many years at the Farm Bureau, but then later went to work for Walmart where she would retire after 20 years of service. She loved baseball, especially the Atlanta Braves. She enjoyed going camping over the years. In her spare time, she most often enjoyed peace and quiet while sewing and crocheting. Over the years she was known for always having an open door for any stray cats, dogs or kids who needed a place to stay. She never turned down the chance to dance, mostly square dancing. Gardening was another true passion of hers over the years. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Blackshear.
She was a daughter of the late Ransom Floyd and Jessie Adel Robson Dixon. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Major Thomas “Bootsie” Boatright; her son, David O’Neal Jr.; three sisters, Eleanor Louise Dixon, Mary Margaret Dixon and a baby infant sister Dixon and a brother, William Stanley “Bill” Dixon.
Survivors include her daughter, Tammy O’Neal, Yulee, FL; three grandchildren, Chris (Nealie) O’Neal, Dustin (Meg) O’Neal, and David O’Neal III; five great-grandchildren, Jase O’Neal, Cade O’Neal, Raife O’Neal, Raylon O’Neal and Reid O’Neal; a daughter-inlaw, Regina Raye O’Neal, Blackshear; two sisters, Bonnie Dixon Lewis, Fernandina Beach, FL and Brenda Dixon Scott, Blackshear; a brother, Travis (Elizabeth) Dixon of Cumming and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Visitation will be held from 10-11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, at the funeral home.
Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 8, from the Pearson-Dial Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tony Walsh officiating.
Interment will be in the Blackshear City Cemetery.
