We have a birthday celebration to start the month of August. Mamie Jean Turner’s 90th birthday celebration was held at the Stephens Venue in Waycross, August 3. It was hosted by her family including all six of her children, Mr. and Mrs. Tommy Gregory Turner, Lenexa, KS, Mr. and Mrs. Yancy Turner, Lenexa, KS, Elnora Clark, Alpharetta, Mr. and Mrs. Winston Riddick (Charis), Alpharetta, Mr. and Mrs. Foster Turner, Loganville and Mr. and Mrs. Swails Turner, Blackshear. She has 27 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Also in attendance were her niece, Sandra Jackson, Lawrenceville; grreatniece Eboni Jackson; her brother Mr. and Mrs. Carl Britton, Monroe; nieces and nephews, Nikki Wells, Jacksonville, FL, Mr. and Mrs. Steve Wells, Orlando, FL. Mrs. Mamie Jean Turner’s 90th birthday will be August 9.

***** Well, Hurricane Debby came calling in Pierce County and really put a damper on things, including the first day of school. Opening day has been resheduled for today (Wednesday, Aug. 7, weather permitting). Stay dry and stay safe. ***** Walter A. Sr. and Earnestine Myles Scholarship Day was a successful day. Many came out to support the event. Scholarships were awarded to 13 young adults. The Myles’ were educators who lived in Pierce County, but taught in several counties in southeast Georgia. The event was held Saturday at the Parker-Harrell Resource Center in Baxley.
***** Grief support will be from 4-5 p.m. every third Monday at 505 Ware Street in Blackshear. ***** Your entire family is invited to worship with Fourth Mount Olive Church during weekly worship services. We are located at 900 Yeomans Street, Blackshear. We are blessed to be able to provide opportunities for all to learn how to love God and each other as we worship God our Father, Jesus Our Savior and the Holy Spirit our Comforter and Guide.
