Chronicles of

Dear Readers,

Right off the top of your head, what would you guess is the current price for an Aston Martin sports car? No, Rhett is not buying me one, but we did have a brush with one a couple of years ago while visiting Clearwater, Florida. The answer to the question is $350,000! Yes, I know, absolutely ridiculous!

We were out sight seeing in our little red sports car on a rainy day in unfamiliar territory, a recipe for disaster. In the twinkling of an eye, Rhett hit the brakes and we came within a kiss of crashing into the back of one of the above-mentioned sports cars. The driver hopped out and Rhett did likewise. We were astounded to see a young fellow of no more than twenty or so. Quick inspections were made of both vehicles, and it was determined there was no damage to either one. No names or insurance details were exchanged and both parties went gratefully on our ways. Upon reflection, we wondered how in the world does a young kid afford such a vehicle? Rhett speculated the driver must have been out and about driving his father’s or grandfather’s Aston and I agreed it would be the perfect “chick magnet”! Our guardian angel was working overtime that day.

Yesterday, while visiting my favorite store, the Corner Market, I engaged the owner, Scott, in a conversation about my family’s vehicles. My six siblings drove an old Toyota Corolla until it literally fell apart! The story goes that when the floorboard rusted out, a kitchen chair was used to continue driving the car to get everyone to class and work. You do what you have to do, right?

Scott shared his adventures of being strapped on stadium seats on top of a toolbox on one of his relatives trucks. He said he had to grab hold of his cousin when they went through a mudpuddle. Reminded me of a Six Flags ride. What adventure!

Those were the days my friend, we thought they’d never end. Mr. Aston Martin just thought he was having fun! Sincerely,

Scarlett
