Harold James O’Steen, Sr.

NAHUNTA — Mr. Harold James O’Steen, Jr., 80, died Friday evening, February 10, 2023 at Bayview Nursing Home in Nahunta.

He was born in Ware County where he lived most of his life. O’Steen graduated from Ware County High School and worked for O’Steen’s Garage.

In 1964, he went to work for CSX Railroad and retired as a carman after 27 ½ years. Afterment retirement, O’Steen enjoyed working for Mock Drilling.

He was a charter member of Deenwood Baptist Church and was proud of 34 consecutive years of fishing he enjoyed after retirement.

O’Steen was preceded in death by his parents, Harold James O’Steen, Sr. and Hazel Ruth McInnis O’Steen; and his siblings, John O’Steen, Lorraine Carter and Harriet J. White.

Survivors include his wife, Gloria Tanner O’Steen; three children, Jamey O’Steen (Julie), Melanie Saxon (Michael), and Jason O’Steen (Amy); grandchildren, Mikey Saxon, Lilli Smith (C.J.), Shelby O’Steen and Tanner O’Steen; one sister, Mary O’Steen Beverly (late W.R.); sister-in-law, Bunny Dowling Howell; brother-in-law, Jimmy White; numerous nieces and nephews; and a very special 93-year-old sister-in-law, Hazel Cason.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday February 15) at Jordan Cemetery in Dixie Union.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the charity of your choice.
