Homerville Chief arrested

Staff Report HOMERVILLE — Homerville Police Chief, Dearin “Mack” Drury, 40, has been arrested on multiple charges including violation of oath of office, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). Drury turned himself in and now faces charges of Violation of Oath of Office, Theft by Taking, Possession of Marijuana, and False Statements and Writings. The GBI gave few details on the violation of oath of office other than there was “improper evidence handling” which happened at the Homerville Police Department Monday, February 19. The GBI took Drury into custody Wednesday, February 22, after he was observed on security cameras taking one THC gummy candy from evidence of a recent arrest, and placing it in his pocket before walking away. Drury was released on a $9,000 bond. The incident was reported to the Clinch County Sheriff’s office and then turned over to the GBI. The investigation is ongoing and once completed, the Alapaha Judicial Circuit District Attorney’s Office will take over the case, the GBI confirmed.
