Denney Averitt Johnson

SAVANAH — Mr. Denney Averitt Johnson, 80, passed away Saturday, February 4, 2023 at Memorial Health in Savannah following a brief illness.

He was born in Ware County to the late Averitt Johnson and Aleeh Dean Johnson. He was a truck driver most of his life, most recently working for Scot Housing. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War where he received the Purple Heart.

Denney was beloved by his only son, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He will never be forgotten for his love of traveling the Smoky Mountains and riding ATVs with his family. Many memories will be on repeat to keep his spirit forever alive.

In addition to his parents, he also was preceded in death by four siblings, Ferrell Johnson, Harley Morris Johnson, Betty Lou Johnson, and Ruth Wilkerson.

He is survived by his son, Denney C. Johnson of Waycross; five grandchildren, Christina Elmira Johnson, Christopher Matthew Johnson, Chandler Montgomery Johnson, Cloey MArie Johnson, and Brenton Alexander Keller; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie Grace Watson, Bentley Watson, Henley Rose Johnson, and Easton Riley Johnson; a sister, Louise Johnson Chaney; and his former wife, Carolyn King Millhorn (Walter “J.R.”) of Waycross.

The family received friends Tuesday evening February 7 at Music Funeral Home. Memorialization is by cremation.
