Wayne Arlen ‘Bud’ Thrift

WAYCROSS — Mr. Wayne Arlen (Bud) Thrift, Sr., 85, died Friday morning, February 10, 2023 at Memorial Satilla Health in Waycross after a short illness.

Thrift was born to the late Floyd M. Thrift and Naomi Strickland Thrift. He lived most of his life in Waycross.

After retiring from the Air Force following 20 years of service, Thrift came back to Waycross and later retired as Captain from the City of Waycross Fire Department. He was a master carpenter, and in his spare time he loved to go fishing and car racing.

In addition to his parents, Thrift also was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Mary Moser Thrift; a son, Timothy Lee; a daughter, Sharlen Golden; a sister, Patsy Lairsey; and five brothers, W.H. (Blue) Thrift, Frank P. Thrift, Leon H. Thrift, Carroll (Shorty) Thrift and James (Jimbo) Thrift.

Thrift is survived by two sons, Wayne Arlen Thrift, Jr. of Orlando, Fla., and Steven Lee of Waycross; two sisters, Rheba Holton of Townsend, Ga., and Linda Sellers (Randy) of Waycross; two brothers, Tommy Thrift (Linda) of Hahira and George M. Thrift (Connie) of Waycross; eight grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.

A graveside service was held Monday, February 13 at High Bluff Cemetery.
