ATLANTA — Raleigh Randall Lee, passed peacefully in his sleep on Friday, December 9, 2022 at the age of 80.
Raleigh was born on November 26, 1942 in Alma. His family moved to Waycross when Raleigh was very young. He attended Ware County High School where he played football, graduating in 1960.
After high school, Raleigh attended the University of Georgia where he was a member of the Sigma Pi fraternity. He graduated in 1964 with a degree in journalism. While attending the University of Georgia, he met his future wife, Janice.
After college, Raleigh served in the U.S. Navy, and he and Janice eventually moved to Atlanta where they’ve lived since.
Being a life-long fan of the University of Georgia Bulldogs, Raleigh was happiest during football season, attending all the home games, some away games and tailgating with Janice and many friends.
Raleigh also had a great love for music — particularly Blues — was a gifted writer, an entrepreneur, a foodie, an insightful friend, a great husband, father, and grandfather — the best “Daddio” in the world to his granddaughters.
His humor, quick wit, creativity and wisdom will be missed by all who knew him.
Raleigh is preceded in death by his parents, Olivera and Randall Lee, and his sisters, Mary Lee Flores and Violet Lee Stevenson.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Janice; his son Brian Lee of Miami, Fla.; his daughter Meredith Fleming of Marietta, Ga.; and his two granddaughters, Madeline and Sarah.
Raleigh also is survived by many nieces and nephews. We all love you forever.
