Kenneth George Harris, Sr.

WAYCROSS — Mr. Kenneth George Harris, Sr., 81, of Waycross, died early Saturday morning, February 11, 2023 at his daughter’s residence after an extended illness.

A lifelong resident of Waycross, Harris was born January 10, 1942 to the late George S. Harris and Lovie Wildes Harris. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War.

Harris was known throughout Waycross as the “Watermelon Man,” and was a daily customer of the Waycross Huddle House.

He was a talented dirt track racer, and drove cars for Dawson Woodard and Rance Phillips. Harris was best known by his racing name which he loved, “Cigo Harris.”

Harris was a member of Liberty Christian Church.

Along with his parents, he also was preceded in death by three sisters, Helen Rowland, Shirley Bonenfant and Faye Guinn; and two brothers, Ronald Harris and Wayne W. Harris.

Harris is survived by nine children, Connie Grant of Blackshear, Kevin Harris and his wife, Sherry, of Waycross, Jack Harris and his wife, Tisch, of Dixie Union, Kenneth George Harris, Jr., of Waycross, Clayton Harris of South Carolina, Lamar Harris of Waycross, John Wesley Harris and his wife, Kathy, of Offerman, Sheila Butler of Waycross, Anna Marie McCray and her husband, William, of Dixie Union; grandchildren, Sug Grant, Mikey Grant and his wife, Amber, Cody Grant and his wife, Abby, Ashley Harris and her husband, Sam, Holly Dixon and her husband, Timmy, A.J. Harris, Teagan Harris, Jaxton Harris, Brody Harris, Tucker Harris, Colton Harris, Heather Blount and her husband, Robert, Drew Harris, Casey Crews and her husband, Dustin, Shelby Sears and her husband, Michael, Dalton Harris, Frank Harris and his wife, Hayden, Ashley Lanier, and Lena McCray; numerous great grandchildren; six siblings, Johnny Harris and his wife, Carolyn, of Waycross, Bennie Joe Harris of Waycross, Jerry Harris of Waycross, Martha McCowen of Waycross, Arlene Scott of Waycross, Betty Wildes and her husband, Lamar, of Brunswick; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. today (Wednesday, February 15) in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in High Bluff Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at noon today at the funeral home.
