SAVANNAH — Ware County’s long trip to Savannah Friday was a short trip back after sweeping Region 1-AAAAA opponent Jenkins.

The Lady Gators (11-4 overall, 1-1), ranked 14th in the latest MaxPreps poll, downed the No. 46 Lady Warriors (4-11, 0-3) 51-20 January 6 to take a 4-2 series lead. It was the first meeting between the two teams since January 17, 2014.

Ware County has alternated wins and losses over its last seven games. The setback was the fourth straight for Jenkins.

The No. 38 Gators (7-6, 2-0) followed with their second straight victory in the nightcap beating No. 30 Jenkions (5-9, 0-3) 59-54. The loss was the sixth straight for the Warriors. Jenkins leads the series 4-2.

Ware County traveled Tuesday, January 10 over to Douglas to face Coffee in the first of two region matchups this week. Ware travels Friday, January 13 up to Evans to face Greenbrier.

Ware County raced out to a 17-point advantage in the opening period and did not allow the Lady Warriors to reach double figures until the third quarter in notching the easy win.

Charlacia Jones scored eight of her nine points in the first quarter sparking the Lady Gators to a 22-5 lead. Ware County used a 12-1 scoring advantage in the second period to build a comfortable 34-6 advantage.

The margin grew to 34 points by the end of the third stanza with the Lady Gators outpointing Jenkins 10-4 for a commanding 44-10 lead. The Lady Warriors outscored Ware County 10-7 in the “mercy rule” final period.

Trinity Jenkins netted a game-high 14 points to lead the balanced Lady Gators’ attack with 10 players reaching the scoring column. Jones was next, followed by CoCo Moody and Charlese McClendon with six points apiece. Amyah Wesley contributed five points.

JaMiracle McMillan and Aniston Delk each bagged three points. Alexis McNeal and Bre Hill chipped in two points apiece with Rhianna Mateyka adding a free throw.

Glenden Hadden, Brandon Washington and Dedric Jackson combined for 42 points, 27 rebounds, 12 steals and nine assists leading the Gators past Jenkins.

Hadden (two treys) led the way with 19 points, seven rebounds, a team-high seven steals, a team-high five assists and a team-high tying two blocks. Washington (two treys) recorded a double-double with 12 points, a team-leading 14 rebounds, five steals, three assists and a blocked shot. Jackson contributed 11 points, six rebounds, an assist and a block.

TeZhan Bolds (two treys) and Tay Franklin each scored six points. Damion Williamson netted four points with Darius Ward chipping in a free throw.

Ware County used a 31-2 run over the middle two periods to pull away from a one-point, first quarter advantage to register the victory.

The Lady Gators led just 8-7 after one quarter. They used a 13-0 spurt in the second stanza to carry a 21-7 lead into intermission.

Ware County blew the game open in the third period outscoring the Lady Warriors 18-2 to stretch the advantage to 39-9. The Lady Gators outpointed Jenkins 3-2 in the “mercy rule” fourth quarter.

Kyla McKelvin led Ware County with a game-high 17 points. Bre Hill followed with 11 points with Lydia Munford netting 10 points. Rhianna Mateyka and Arri Ramsey netted two points apiece.
