Two Region 1-AAAAA home losses over the weekend dropped Ware County’s current losing streak to a season-worst seven games heading into the season finale Friday.

Coffee (11-11 overall, 6-4 region), ranked 32nd by MaxPreps, evened its season slate Friday, January 27 with a seventh win in 10 outings beating the No. 44 Gators (7-13, 2-7) 52-42 for the season sweep following a 78-62 home victory January 10.

The Trojans’ victory was their 12th straight in the series following a sixth consecutive season sweep dating back to the 2016-17 campaign. Coffee has won 17 of the past 20 matchups between the two programs.

Surging Greenbrier (14-9, 7-1), ranked 28th, won for the 10th time in 12 games with a 73-51 decision Saturday, January 28 to finish off the season sweep. The Wolfpack posted a 64-60 home win back on January 13.

The Gators close out the regular season Friday night against visiting Statesboro.

The Trojans pulled away from a one-point halftime advantage outscoring Ware County in each of the final two quarters for the win.

Coffee claimed a 16-13 lead after one period. The Gators used an 8-6 scoring advantage in the second stanza to close the deficit to 22-21 by halftime.

The Trojans, who converted 14-of-20 free throw attempts in the second half, opened up some breathing room in the third quarter outscoring Ware County 17-11 for a 39-32 lead. They closed out the game with a 13-10 scoring advantage.

Dedric Jackson topped the Gators with 12 points. Brandon Washington netted nine points with Darius Ward and Tayshaun Franklin each scoring seven points. TeZhan Bolds and Delvin Denton contributed four points and three points respectively.

Coffee got 12 points each from Tyriq Edwards and Larry Daniel.

Ware County struggled from the field making just 29 percent of its shots in falling to the Wolfpack.

The Gators made just 18-of-62 field goals including 2-of-11 from long distance. They only had nine offensive rebounds.

Washington (team-high eight rebounds, two assists) led the way with 12 point. Franklin (five rebounds, steal, blocked shot) and Ward (team-high tying four assists, two rebounds) followed with nine points and eight points respectively.

Glenden Hadden (team-high tying four assists, two rebounds) netted seven points with Damian Williamson (two steals, two assists) adding six points. Jackson (three assists, steal) was next with five points while Kent Hereford chipped in three points and Preston Harper finished with a free throw.
