University of Georgia tight ends coach Todd Hartley visited Ware County to meet with head coach Jason Strickland Friday.
The visit was part of head coach Kirby Smart’s plan to have nine assistants and himself visit 10 Georgia high schools apiece Friday, January 13, just four days after winning a second straight national title. The Bulldogs rolled to a 65-7 win Monday, January 9 over TCU in Inglewood, Cal., at SoFi Stadium.
The UGA coaching staff was checking in on Class of 2024 and Class of 2025 prospects in person as well as committed Class of 2023 signees.
Hartley arrived on the Ware County campus via a helicopter.
Hartley’s stop at Ware County High School was one of many on his schedule which included Colquitt County and 2024 five-star tight end commitment Landen Thomas, Berrien High School and 2024 safety Josiah Davis, Lowndes High and 2025 linebacker Coleman Lewis, Pierce County High School, Wayne County High School, Brunswick High with offensive tackle commit Jamal Meriweather, Glynn Academy, Camden County and Charlton County with 2025 five-star tight end Elyiss Williams.
“What they (UGA staff) did Friday was very impressive,” said PCHS head coach Ryan Herring. “Four days after winning the national title they are out hitting the recruiting trail hard ... that’s impressive. You can see why Georgia is at the top because nobody is working harder than those guys.”
Hartley spent 30 minutes at PCHS after leaving Ware County.
“It was a very nice visit,” stated Herring. “I really appreciated it because it means more than just a phone call. Coach Hartley is very nice, professional, down to earth and easy to talk to. He does a great job with the tight ends as evident by Georgia having the best tight end collection in America.”
Senior all-state offensive linemen Henry Peagler garnered some interest and could be offered as a preferred walk-on, according to Herring.
