EVANS — Ware County split a Region 1-AAAAA road doubleheader here Friday with Greenbrier.

The MaxPreps 15th-ranked Lady Gators (13-4 overall, 3-1 region) recorded a third consecutive victory knocking off the Atlanta Journal-Constitution ninth-ranked and MaxPreps 11th-ranked Lady Wolfpack (13-6, 2-2) 60-52.

Following the game, Greenbrier girls’ first-year coach Zakeya Goldsberry was taken into custody by the Columbia County School District Police for an altercation occuring at halftime, according to a report by The Augusta Chronicle.

Goldsberry had an altercation with a student, according to a release from the school. She was charged with Family Violence simple battery. Goldsberry was transported to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office and was released on bond.

According to the press release, the case has been submitted to the district’s human resources department for further investigation.

In the finale, the No. 30 Wolfpack (10-9, 3-1) picked up a third straight victory handing the No. 38 Gators (7-8, 2-2) a second straight setback with a 64-60 decision.

Ware County will hold Senior Night Friday, January 20 when Jenkins of Savannah comes to town for a region quadrupleheader. Jayvee action begins the day tipping at 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m., with varsity action slated for 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Ware County travels Saturday, January 21 to Statesboro for a second quadrupleheader. Games are scheduled for 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Trinity Jenkins scored 21 of her game-high 27 points over the middle two periods in leading Ware County past the Lady Wolfpack.

Jenkins connected on three of her game-high four three-pointers in the second period scoring 11 points and added 10 points in the third quarter as the Lady Gators took control of the game.

Greenbrier claimed a 14-12 advantage after one period. Jenkins and CoCo Moody (16 points) combined for all 17 Ware County points in the second stanza as the Lady Gators outscored the home team by seven points to take a 29-24 lead into intermission.

Ware County broke the game open in the third quarter outscoring the Lady Wolfpack 21-10 to stretch the lead out to 50-34. Greenbrier sliced the deficit in half over the final eight minutes outscoring the Lady Gators 18-10.

Charlese McClendon finished third in the scoring column for Ware County finishing with eight points. Aniyah Wesley and Charlacia Jones followed with four points apiece. Aniston Delk chipped in two points and Kyla McKelvin netted a free throw.

Greenbrier got 16 points from Caitlyn Staley (14 in the second half) and 10 points from Desteney Yaldez-Perez.

The host Wolfpack overcame a three-point deficit entering the final period outscoring Ware County by seven points for the come-from-behind victory.

Ware County lead at the end of each of the first three quarters taking a 48-45 lead into the final period. Greenbrier outscored the Gators 19-12 down the stretch.

The Gators hit three of hits nine long-range bombs in the opening quarter in taking an 18-17 lead. They were able to double the margin despite making just one basket in the second stanza outscoring the Wolfpack 11-10 for a 29-27 halftime advantage.

Ware County added another point to its margin outscoring the home team 19-18 in the third stanza for a three-point lead with eight minutes to play.

Brandon Washington (two treys) paced the Gators with 19 points. Ta’Zhan Bolds (three treys) joined Washington in double figures with 14 points.

Glenden Hadden (two treys) and Darius Ward (trey) followed with eight points and seven points respectively. Damian Williamson (trey) netted five points with Dedric Jackson and Delvin Denton bagging three points apiece.
