Patricia Ann Scruggs Hendricks

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Ms. Patricia Ann Scruggs Hendricks, 90, of Jacksonville, Fla., died Wednesday afternoon, April 26, 2023 at the McGraw Center in Jacksonville after an extended illness. She was born in Waycross to the late Truman Edward Scruggs and Rosa Bowen Scruggs. She was a 1949 graduate of Waycross High School where she excelled on the Waycross High School basketball team. She married Lt. Commander Roy L. Hendricks, Sr., and together they lived throughout the United States during his time in the United States Navy. They eventually settled in Jacksonville Beach in 1965. Ms. Hendricks enjoyed decorating her home and walking on the beach. Her passion was her yard. She loved working daily in her yard and was recognized for “Yard of the Month,” on several occasions in the City of Jacksonville. She was affectionately known by her son, Roy, daughter-in-law, Leslie, and grandchildren, Tyler and Kaden, as “Granzey,” and by her extended family as “Aunt Pat.” Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Lt. Commander Roy L. Hendricks, Sr.; one sister, Jacqueline S. Henderson; one brother-in-law, A.P. Henderson, Jr.; and two brothers, Malcolm F. Scruggs and Marion Bud Scruggs. Ms. Hendricks is survived by her son, Roy L. Hendricks, Jr., and his wife Leslie of Jacksonville; two grandchildren, Dr. Tyler J. Hendricks of Jacksonville, and Kaden B. Hendricks of Jacksonville; nieces and nephews, Alvin Henderson and his wife, Debbie, Richard Henderson and his wife, Lori, Rosanne Deas and her husband, Barry, Adam Henderson and his wife, Regina, Stephen Scruggs and his wife, Shirley, Mike Scruggs, LeFane Scruggs, Julie Scruggs Locker; as well as numerous great nieces, great nephews and other relatives; and two very special friends, Nilda Belingon and Nancy Tayman. A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, April 29 in Zenith Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Coast Women’s Services, 3475 Kernan Boulevard. South, Jacksonville, 32224, or to Community Hospice, www.communityhospice.com/give/. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Community Hospice-Jacksonville for the outstanding love and care that was given to Ms. Hendricks while under their care.
