James Huey “Red” Deen

BRUNSWICK — Mr. James Huey “Red” Deen, 83, died Saturday, May 27, 2023, at Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick after a brief illness.

He was born March 30, 1940 to his parents James Smitty Deen and Elizabeth Griffis Nobles in Clinch County though he spent most of his life at 3R Fish Camp.

He was a retired Foreman at the woodyard at Gilman Paper Co. in St. Mary’s. He was a member of Blest Community Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Maggie Deen and a sister, Mary Lou Singletary.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Judy Lynn Deen of White Oak, Georgia; three daughters, Fannie Miller (Tom) of White Oak, Ga., Judy Lynn Deen (boyfriend Thomas Gray) of Waycross,  and Journie Leigh McCarthy (Tony) of Waverly, Ga.; four grandchildren, Tripp Logan Deen, Hannah Marie Miller, Crystal Wilkinson and  Kade Dakota Whitrock; three great grandchildren, Remington McCarthy, Violet McCarthy and Gene Austin; two sisters, Hazel White of The Villages, Fla., and Deloris Mizell of Pearson, Ga.; two brothers, Johnny Dean and Donald Deen; his fur baby, Missy Deen; and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today, (Wednesday, May 31) at Burnt Fort Cemetery.
