PCHS BEAR FACTS

Welcome back to PCHS Bear Facts! From the halls of Pierce County High School, here is our list of hot topics for the week spanning Sept. 28-October 4, 2022.

Let’s start off by saluting our homecoming royalty, crowned at halftime of the Bears’ 49-7 win over Brantley County. Seniors Ellie Mattox and Jordan Insco were crowned as homecoming princesses while fellow senior Kenzie Meeks was crowned as the 2022 Homecoming Queen.

Hats off to those who worked behind the scenes to ensure a fun week of homecoming events: PCHS teachers Bridget Delaney, Courtney Morgan, and Rhonda Bennett, who serve as advisors to the PCHS Student Council, spent several weeks planning and working up to the completion of Friday night.

We also salute Mr. Jeremiah Parker of Duluth-based Formetco for adding pageantry to homecoming with a deluxe model LED board that included a live game feed as well as special flare during homecoming court introductions.

It’s another rivalry week as the Bears are slated to take on Appling County in Baxley. This game has decided the region title in many past seasons and promises to be another challenge. The student spirit theme for the game will be “black out” and we will have our first pep rally of the year on Friday. Students and faculty, bring your “A-game” attitude to fire up the Bears!

Recently PCHS announced senior superlatives for the Class of 2023. Those honorees include: Best Dressed - Dylan Clark & Regan Boatright; Most Talented - Justin Herrin & Addy Cantrell; Most Spirited - Kaden Jones, Lillie Stipe, & Jordan Insco; Most Flirtatious - Ellison Kirkland & Kylie Allen; Most Athletic - D.J. Bell & Kadence Godwin; Most Likely to Succeed - Davis Byrd & Mary Beth Chancey; Most Intellectual - Owen Roneker & Cianna Kicklighter; Friendliest - Ja’Khorion Harris & Ellie Mattox; Best Looking - Collin Waters & Alaina Harvard; Wittiest - Patrick McDonald & Kelly Brewster; Best All-Around - Davis Hersey & Kenzie Meeks.

Bears senior Henry Peagler is the subject of a story published in the September edition of 912 Sports Magazine. Be sure to read all about this amazing student/athlete and his accomplishments.

Congratulations to the following students for receiving their Microsoft Office Specialist Certification in Excel 2019: Seth Beale, Rodrigo Alcaraz, Will McIntosh, Mason Roberson, Isabella Fazio, and Nathan Rupright. Nathan also received a Microsoft Office Specialist Associate Certification as he has passed all three of our certifications in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2019.

More kudos still for Nathan Rupright, who has been named an AV captain for 2022-23.  A senior, Nathan is a pathway completer for Audio/Video Technology & Film and has passed the NOCTI end of pathway exam for Television Production. He currently serves as senior producer of the daily Bears D.E.N. News. Way to go, Nate!

In honor of Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, FBLA is once again helping spread some cheer to children undergoing chemotherapy treatments by building “chemo care packages.” Now through September 30, everyone is asked to donate the following type items: neck rests, lip balm, lemon drops, gum, scented candles, socks, blankets, hand sanitizer, personalized encouragement letters, small toys, diary, crosswords, earbuds, etc. All items will be donated to Mattie’s Mission. You can drop off your donations at Mrs. Whitaker’s Room (348).

Meanwhile, Work-Based Learning is sponsoring “Self-Care September.” During the month of September, everyone is asked to contribute shampoo, body wash, and deodorant to benefit the PCHS clothing closet. Turn these items into your first period or first block class. The class that collects the most items will receive a Jerry J’s breakfast.

PCHS will be giving the ASVAB test on October 14. This is the aptitude test for the U.S. Military. All 11th and 12th graders who want to take the tests need to see Mr. Tommy Doss as soon as possible.

FCA meets every Thursday morning at 7:45 in the auditorium. Everyone is invited to attend and to bring a friend. It’s a great way to start your day

As always, be responsible, respectful, and safe.
