WAYCROSS — Mr. Calvin Maurice Barnes was born the third child of Anthony “A.J.” Barnes and Mother Gladys (Bullard) Barnes on March 29, 1961. He passed away at sunrise Monday May 22, 2023 after an extended illness.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his oldest brother, Tony Anthony Barnes. Calvin was a member of Powerhouse of Faith Church in Newtown.
Mr. Barnes spent over 40 years of his life cooking for the masses at Holiday Inn, Applebee’s, Ole Times Country Buffet, and family gatherings. He was well-known for his culinary skills. His niece nicknamed him, “Father,” because of his gentle nature and how he loved children as if they were his own. He had a heart of gold and would often give his last without any thought of his own needs.
Mr. Barnes leaves to mourn three siblings, one sister, Dr. Sheree Barnes of Byron, Ga.; two brothers, Darrell D. Barnes, and Kenneth L. Barnes of Waycross; an “adopted” sister, Kim Taylor (Anthony); an aunt, Wyleen Davis of Towson, Md.; four nieces, Omrina D. Reese, Yashinda Wright (Armando), Jamina Barnes, Jene’ Jackson (Jamareo); a nephew, Sanford David Morrison, Jr. (Tamara); eight beautiful great nieces, Tamaya and Sanai Morrison, Jamiah Barnes, Makayla Goodgame, Amanda Wright, McKenzie, Madison, and baby Jackson; a great nephew, Devon Barnes; special cousins, Doreatha Mack (Rufus), Carla Howard (Nelson), Andrea Mack, and Tomika Mack, Kenneth Williams (LaTrell), Kendra McElroy, and Louella Robinson (Jamar); close family friends, Sarah Morris, Donald Jones, and Pastor Martha Hall; and a host of friends, co-workers, and cousins who will remember him in their hearts.
The family will be receiving friends and family at 1605 Riverside Avenue, Waycross. Flowers may be sent to Harrington Funeral Home.
The funeral will take place at 10 a.m., Saturday, June 3 at Community Holiness Church, Host Pastor, Elder Bobby Orange. Pastor Kenneth A. Kirksey will deliver the eulogy. The repast will take place immediately following the homegoing service in the fellowship hall next door.
