Carter cards 69 to lead Statesboro Blue Devil tourney

— Trace Carter carded a three-under-par round of 69 to win medalist honors here Saturday in the Statesboro Blue Devil Invitational. Carter, who reached five-under with two holes to play, was four shots better than the runner-up score posted at the Georgia Southern University Golf Course in the eight-team boys’ event. Benedictine won the tourney with a 310 team score. The Cadets were followed by Habersham (312), Greenbrier (321), Ware County (328), Parkview and Trinity Sharpburg (347), host Statesboro (349) and Metter (373). South Effingham and White County also participated, but did not report four scores. Following Carter, named to the all-tournament team, was Collin Brown with an 89. Mac Dean and Eli Taft each posted rounds of 90. Davis Hereford recorded a 96. Asher Dean played as an individual and carded an 85. The Lady Gators placed fourth in the six-team girls’ tournament. Greenbrier posted a 245 to capture to honors. The Lady Wolfpack was followed by White County (276), St. Vincent’s Academy (283), Ware County (284), Metter (318) and Statesboro (330). Anniston Grantham led the Lady Gators with a 90. Tatum Downs was two shots back at 92. Kate Thomas followed with a 102 and Lillie Livingston posted a 112.
