WAYCROSS — Mrs. Genevieve Louise Martin, 83, died Saturday afternoon, April 22, 2023, at her residence. Mrs. Martin was born February 6, 1940 in Homestead, Pa., to the late John Wies and Helen Vasko Wies. She grew up in Pennsylvania, and following high school, lived in Washington, D.C., Ohio, Beaufort, S.C., and eventually settled in Waycross in 2000. Mrs. Martin retired from the United States Postal Service in Beaufort. Having been raised Catholic, she was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Waycross. Mrs. Martin loved her animals, enjoyed reading and volunteering at the hospital, library and humane society in Waycross. She will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and pets. Survivors include her children, William Malcolm Martin IV (Cori) of Southport, N.C., Christina Marie Martin of Waycross, and Angela Michelle Bristow (Phillip) of Waycross; grandchildren, Haley Newton (Cino) and Victoria Martin; great grandchild, Isabella Newton; sister, Cynthia Grover (Richard Edwards); two nephews and their families. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ware County Animal Shelter, 3030 Brown Drive, Waycross, 31503.
