We’re getting set for our first long weekend of the school year. Students will not attend classes this Friday September 2 or Monday, September 5 in observance of Labor Day. Teachers will attend on Friday, September 2 for professional development.

This Thursday (September 1) a representative will be on campus to take letter jacket orders during all three lunches. A letter jacket purchase requires a $100 deposit. You also have to qualify according to the criteria set forth by your coach. You can also order online at gradnow.com.

The PCHS Spirit Cheerleaders are selling Hog-N-Bones Boston Butt tickets for $30 until September 1. Tickets can be purchased by contacting Mabry James at [email protected]. You can pick up your Boston Butt between now and November 5 at Hog-N-Bones.

Students in grades 10-12 who would like to serve on Superintendent Bennett’s Student Advisory Council should apply by September 9. The application has been emailed to you via your school Gmail account.

Mark your calendars for the end-of-summer shopping event at Patterson Baptist Church’s Clothing Closet in Patterson. This one-day event will be 9 a.m. until noon on Saturday, September 17. This is for all school-aged children and there is no cost. Be sure to tell your parents. See Mrs. DuPont for more information.

And to those students who were tapped for Beta membership: If you were unable to attend the informational meeting recently, please see Mrs. Crosby in room 408 or Mrs. Tison in room 380 if you are interested in joining. It is not too late! Club dues for new members are $42) and $10 for returning members $10, due to Mrs. Crosby or Mrs. Tison by September 6th. This is also the deadline for any student receiving a Beta invite to join.

We are still a few weeks away from homecoming, but now is the time to start planning for homecoming dress-up days, which will be September 19-26. This year’s theme is “We’ve got the Beat” and the daily themes are as follows: Disco Day (Monday), Patriotic Day (Tuesday), Western Day (Wednesday), Twin Day (Thursday), and School Spirit Day (Friday).

Lady Bears softball returns to the diamond tomorrow (Sept. 1) in a region game at Toombs County. The JV plays at 4 p.m. with varsity action at 6 p.m.

Meanwhile, volleyball is on the road tomorrow in Reidsville against Tattnall County and Appling County. JV action starts at 4 p.m. followed by varsity matches at 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. The Volley Bears return home September 6 against Brantley County and Vidalia. Match times for PCHS will be at 4 p.m. (JV), 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. All of these matches will be broadcast on the NFHS Network.

On the gridiron, the JV football Bears travel to Appling County tomorrow for a 5 p.m. kickoff. And on Friday, the varsity Bears travel to play Metter at 7:30 p.m. The varsity game will be broadcast on the NFHS Network and via radio on 97.7 FM, WWUF.
