Tommy Herrin

WAYCROSS — Tommy Herrin, 66, died Wednesday morning, August 9, 2023, at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

Herrin was born June 1, 1957 in Waycross to the late Cecil Herrin and Mary Evelyn Gillis Herrin. Due to his past illnesses, Herrin spent his last years at Baptist Village, but he was very active in the community most of his life.

Herrin worked in his family business, Cecil Herrin Home Furnishing, and he was formerly employed by the Georgia Department of Labor for 10 years.  Herrin was a member of First Baptist Church, and served two terms as president for the Waycross Lions Club. He was named “Lion of the Year” after his second term.

Herrin was past president of Okefenokee ToastMasters Club, Area Governor of Area 51, and he was very active in the Baptist Village Choir.

In addition to his parents, Herrin was preceded in death by his brothers, Charlie and Jimmy Herrin.

Survivors include his cousins, Susan Moser (Bill) of Newton, N.C., Dr. Walt Peacock (Eve) of College Station, Texas, Wayne Peacock (Kim) of Athens, Ga., Irene Arnold of Blackshear, and Mary Susan Kicklighter of Valdosta; special friends, Terry Pinder (Sharon) of Waycross; high school friends, Greg Smith, Greg Sirmans (Alisa), George Farr, Jr. (Pam), George Fesperman III (Lisa), James Rivers III (Lynn), and Robin Smith; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Herrin would like to extend his deepest, heartfelt appreciation to all members of First Baptist Church for their fellowship and compassion throughout the many years.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. today (Saturday, August 12) at Oakland Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Baptist Village, First Baptist Church or the Salvation Army.
