Editor, The Times:
I am writing to ask all Pierce County taxpayers to be sure they have checked and reviewed their property record card (PRC) at the tax assessors office.
What is the PRC? I would guess most taxpayers do not know what it is. The PRC is a record of the real and personal property that you own and is used to determine how your property is valued and assessed and ultimately determines how much you pay in taxes.
I have asked repeatedly for several years that the county mail out a copy of the PRC to all tax payers in Pierce County. I am told that it is the taxpayer’s responsibility to know what is on their PRC.
It is important to review this information. As adamant as I am about checking it, I recently found out that a shelter I own is listed twice on my PRC and I have been assessed twice and I am paying more taxes on it than I should have.
It is very important to check and review your PRC. Please call the tax assessors office and do so today.
