NAHUNTA — Gilbert Lee Altman, 83, of Nahunta died Wednesday afternoon, May 31, 2023, at Memorial Satilla Health after an extended illness.
Altman was born in Brantley County to the late Cyrus Jefferson Altman and Gertie Carter Altman and made Waycross his home for most of his life.
He worked and retired from Champion Products after 30 years. Altman enjoyed fishing, gardening, and praising the Lord. He was a former member of University Blvd. Church of God and a current member of Second Baptist Church.
In addition to his parents, Altman is preceded in death by his wife, Darcille Cothern Altman; a daughter, Rhonda Altman; siblings, Harold J. Altman, Gibson Altman, Hilton Altman, Bennie Altman, Sallie Scheer, Ralph Altman, Reecy Crawford, Margaret Faye Altman, Jeanette Altman, Carolyn Lucas, and Wayne Altman.
Altman is survived by two sons, Ronald Altman of Brunswick and Donald Altman wife Shirleen of Waycross; several grandchildren; three siblings, Linda Hickox and husband Freddie of Waycross, Cecil Altman and wife Helen of Saute, Ga., Dewitt Altman and wife Meredith of Etowah, Tenn.; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held Monday morning, June 5, 2023, in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel.
Burial followed in High Bluff Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Martha Lang for her help at Champion Products and Mary Lou Waldron and her staff at Bayview Nursing Home for their love and support over the past seven years.
