SAVANNAH — Retired United States Air Force CMSGT Eugene Dixon, age 97, went to be with the Lord Saturday, July 15, 2023, surrounded by loved ones.
Dixon was born January 16, 1926, in Baxley to the late Algie and Preston Dixon. He also was predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years, Betty B. Dixon, and three sisters.
Dixon graduated from Baxley High School and continued his education at University of Georgia and Savannah Vocation-Technical School. After high school, Dixon served more than two years in the Army Air Corp. during World War II. He was recalled into the United States Air Force at the beginning of the Korean Conflict and served more than 22 years, retiring in 1973.
Dixon and his wife relocated to Savannah where he was employed by Chatham County for 13 years before retiring in 1988.
He was an active member of The CrossRoad Baptist Church. Dixon is survived by four nieces and his loving and caring Church family.
Visitation and a Celebration of Life Service were Thursday, July 20 at The CrossRoad Baptist Church, 8510 Middleground Road, Savannah.
Burial with full military honors was held in the Greenwich Section of Bonaventure Cemetery followed the service.
