Educational Legacy Continues

July 22, 2023, Dr. Adriuna Ratcliff Johnson received her doctorate degree from Walden University in Orlando, Fl. Dr. Johnson is an Assistant Principal at Williams Heights Elementary in Ware County. She is the wife of the proud Mr. Calvin Johnson who is the counselor at Waycross Middle School in the Ware County School District. They have 3 beautiful children: Calvin Johnson Jr., Ahriah Braylee and Averie Blair Johnson. Rhea Janelle Ratcliff is her supportive sister who lives in Valdosta, Ga. She is currently a 9th grade literature teacher at Valdosta High School.

She has joined her family legacy of educators: mother, 2 aunts and 3 uncles who all received doctoral degrees. Dr. Linda Miles Houseal (mother), Dr. Florence Miles Moffett (aunt), Dr. Barbara Miles Pettiford (aunt), Dr. Robert Miles (uncle), Dr. Willie Miles, uncle and Dr. Grady Miles (uncle) all have been inspirations of knowledge, encouragement and prayers while Dr. Johnson was earning the highest achievement being an educator.

Her parents, Minister and Dr. Nathaniel Houseal have always encouraged all to get an education to improve spiritual, economic and social status. Dr. Johnson’s grandparents, the late Mr. Leroy and Mrs. Florence Miles encouraged their children to earn a college degree because they were never given the opportunity to achieve a post-secondary education. Of a family of 11, 10 started out teaching in South Georgia’s public schools. Although all are retired currently, they held positions as Superintendent, Personnel Director, Pre K Director, Student Services Assistant, Principal and Assistant Principal.

Growing up, the Miles children heard education discussed daily. There was no doubt growing up what was expected after leaving high school. It was something that Mrs. Florence Miles instilled in her children from birth with the support of Mr. Leroy Miles. Mrs. Miles had an 8th grade education and Mr. Miles had a 3rd grade education and they knew the importance of being educated in South Georgia.  Both of Adriuna’s maternal grandparents died in 1984 and in 1985. She never met them, but their dreams and legacy lives on in the grandchildren and for generations to come.
