WAYCROSS — Frank Boyce Crawford, 92 of Waycross, passed away peacefully Friday, July 21, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Savannah from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Crawford was born November 25, 1930 in Ware County to the late Toomer and Alma Thrift Crawford. The third of 10 children, he worked hard to help on the family farm.
Crawford graduated from Manor High School. Following graduation, he served in the United States Navy. After his time in the Navy, Crawford began working for Seaboard Coastline Railroad.
He worked as a machinist and conductor retiring in 1986 as a foreman at the Rice Yard. Following his retirement, Crawford enjoyed traveling with his wife, working on race cars for his son, and spending time with his grandchildren.
He was a loving grandfather who always bragged on his grandchildren and firmly believed that if he couldn’t take his grandchildren with him, then he didn’t need to go either.
Crawford was an active member of Calvary Baptist Church where he served as a deacon, taught Sunday School, and served on the counting committee until his health prevented him from doing so. An avid student of scripture, Crawford was always amazed that no matter how many times he had read the Bible in its entirety, that God taught him something new each time.
In addition to his parents, Crawford was preceded in death by his children’s mother, Rosa Lee Crews Crawford; his sisters, Hazel Tatum, Laverne Herrin and Faye Butler; his brothers, Hilton Crawford and Keith Crawford; as well as an infant daughter.
Crawford is survived by his daughter, Gloria Sorrells (Frank) of Waycross; his son, Gary Crawford (Marilyn) of Hoboken; one grandson, Levi Herrin (Melissa) of Waycross; three granddaughters, LeAnn Lee of Waycross, Deione Osban (Rob) of Hoboken, and Dori Buonanno (John) of Bethany, Conn.; nine great grandchildren, Staten Braddy (Hailey) and Sarah Osban of Hoboken, Christopher Herrin of Goose Creek, S.C., Rhett and Layton Herrin of Waycross, Jackson and Drake Lee of Waycross, and Alli and Ashton Buonanno of Bethany, Conn.; he was anticipating the arrival of his first great-great grandchild in August; four bonus grandchildren, Amanda Sorrells (Tony) of Macclenny, Fla., Becky Crews (Andy) of Glen St. Mary’s, Jessica Lemieux of St. Augustine, Fla., and Suzanne Betros (Jake) of Macclenny, Fla.; a brother, Benny Crawford (Pansy) of Waycross; his sisters, Brenda Henderson (Sam) of Jesup, Betty Carol Jordan (Jimmy) of Waycross, and Lynne Burnes (Bob) of Jesup; along with a large number of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
