WCHS Lady Gators - 12/20

Ware County’s Lady Gators bounced back from its first loss of the season recording a pair of wins over the weekend.

The Lady Gators (8-1) handed visiting Ftizgerald (1-3) a third consecutive loss Friday night, December 16 winning 54-24.

Ware County completed the season sweep of Camden County (4-5) ending the Lady Wildcats’ three-game winning streak with a 52-41 decision Saturday, December 17. The Lady Gators rolled 56-29 in the first meeting at home December 3.

Ware County hosted Valdosta Tuesday, December 20 in the final game before Christmas. The Lady Gators will participate in a three-day tournament in Moultrie at host Colquitt County December 28-30 to close out 2022.

Trinity Jenkins led nine Ware County players in the scoring with 12 points as the Lady Gators rolled past Fitzgerald.

Ware County jetted out to an 18-6 lead by the end of the opening eight minutes. A 10-2 scoring advantage in the second period extended the lead to 28-8 at intermission.

The Lady Gators continuted building on their advantage outscoring Fitzgerald 18-7 in the third quarter for a commanding 46-15 lead. Ware County outpointed th visitors 8-7 in the “mercy rule” final period.

Alexis McNeal, Aniyah Wesley and Charlese McClendon followed Jenkins’ lead scoring eight points apiece with CoCo Moody chipping in six points.

Aniston Delk contributed four points while Kyla McKelvin and Rhianna Mateyka netted three points apiece. Jomari Goodman bagged two points.

Fitzgerald’s Chariyell Jones scored a game-high 14 points.

KINGSLAND — The Lady Gators used a big third quarter to pull away from a one-point halftime lead to beat Camden County.

Ware County grabbed a 13-11 lead after one period. The Lady Wildcats cut the deficit in half by intermission outscoring the visitors 8-7 to trail 20-19 at the break.

The Lady Gators took control of the game in the third quarter nearly matching their first-half production. Ware County outpointed the host 19-6 during the period to open up a 39-25 lead. Camden County chipped three points off the deficit outscoring the Lady Gators 16-13 over the final eight minutes.

Jenkins led Ware County with a game-high 15 points including 7-of-9 at the free throw line. Moody contributed 12 points and hit a pair of threes.

McClendon added eight points with Wesley following with five points. Charlacia Jones and McNeal netted three points apiece. McKelvin, Mateyka and Delk chipped two points apiece.

Camden County was led by the 11-point effort of Taylor Rietveld.
