James Roger Davis

BLACKSHEAR — Mr. James Roger Davis, 71, of Blackshear, passed away Monday, November 21, 2022, at his residence.

Born in Alma, Ga., on May 27, 1951, he had lived in Pierce County all of his adult life. Mr. Davis was a hardworking man who always worked two jobs. He retired from the City of Blackshear’s Maintenance Department, and also had worked as a janitor at Pierce County High School, Blackshear Elementary and then for the Pierce County Recreation Department where he did groundskeeping and maintenance along with cooking for the concession stand.

When he wasn’t working he enjoyed riding his golf cart, fishing and watching the History and Discovery Channels. Mr. Davis had a sweet tooth, and enjoyed baking as well as cooking. He was of the Baptist faith.

He was a son of the late and Madese Bennett Davis. He also was preceded in death by a brother, Pomeroy Davis; and a sister, Janice Redding.

Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Vera Davis of Blackshear; five sisters, Elaine Day of Blackshear, Lucy Day of Waycross, Carolyn Waters of Blackshear, and Mildred Taylor and Judy Carter both of Alma; and several nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

A memorial service for Mr. Davis was held at 7 p.m. Monday, November 28, from Faith Baptist Church with the Rev. Mark Summers officiating.

The family received friends one hour prior to the service .at the church.

Memorialization was by cremation.
