Voting General Election

Voting results in South Georgia were pretty much in sync with eventual winners across Georgia during Tuesday’s General Election.

Republican candidates dominated the Democrat opposition in the area by a near average unofficially of 90 percent to 10%. State-wide totals cut the margins to smaller margins of victory.

Governor Brian Kemp garnered 73.09% of the vote in Ware County, 90.04% in Pierce County, 92.44% in Brantley County, and 89.01% in Bacon County in his race with Democrat Stacey Abrams. The final margin was 53% for Kemp to 47% for Abrams.

Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker easily carried the four-county area against incumbent Raphael Warnock with 70.74% of the vote in Ware, 88.25% in Pierce, 90.23% in Brantley, and 86.36% in Bacon.

There will be a runoff between the two since neither candidate received more than 50% of the votes. Warnock, who dominated the northern part of the state, collected 49.4% to Walker’s 48.5%.

Republican incumbent District 1 House of Representatives “Buddy” Carter captured 73.78% of the votes in Ware, 90.35% in Pierce, 92.61% in Brantley and 89.20% in Bacon against Democrat foe Wade Herring.

For Secretary of State, incumbent Republican Brad Raffensperger collected 72.21% of Ware County votes, 88.13% in Pierce, 89.97% in Brantley, and 87.25% in Bacon County in his race with Democrat Bee Nguyen. Raffensperger received 53.3% across the state to Nguyen’s 40%.

For Commissioner of Agriculture to fill Gary Black’s position, Republican Tyler Harper finished with 73.36% in Ware, 90.23 in Pierce, 91.6% in Brantley, and 90.07% in Bacon against Democrat Nakita Hemingway. Harper finished with 52.9% across the state to win over Hemingway’s 44.9%.

For State School Superintendent, incumbent Republican Richard Woods received 73.71% of the votes in Ware, 90.75% in Pierce, 92.37% in Brantley, and 89.44% in Bacon in the race against Democrat Alisha Thomas Searcy. The margin was 54.2% to 45.8% across the state for Woods.

Incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones netted 72.20% of Ware County votes, 89.17% in Pierce, 91.71% in Brantley, and 88.03% in Bacon against Democrat Charlie Bailey. Jones finished with 51.4% across the state with Bailey at 46.5%.

For Attorney General, incumbent Republican Chris Carr captured 72.24% in Ware, 89.15% in Pierce, 90.91% in Brantley, and 88.08% in Bacon against Democrat Jennifer “Jen” Jordan. Carr has 51.8% across the state to Jordan’s 46.7%.

A number of candidates were running unopposed locally so their seats were assured following the Primary Election in May.

In Ware County, those were Commissioners Leonard Burse Jr. (Democrat, District 1) and Timothy “Timmy” Lucas (R-Dist. 2). Burse collected 1,632 votes and Lucas 2,075.

For District Attorney, Republican Marilyn Bennett collected 9,004 votes while Republican Joseph R. Johnson had 8,953 for Solicitor General.
