WAYCROSS — Walter Rudolph Tatum, 94, of Waycross died Thursday evening November 10, 2022, at the Hospice Satilla Hospice House after an extended illness.
Mr. Tatum was born in Waycross to the late James Walter Tatum and Ada Pittman Tatum, and made Ware County his home all his life. He served his country faithfully in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He worked and retired from Littlefield Construction Company as a heavy equipment operator after 54 years.
Mr. Tatum was a hard-working man who enjoyed working in the yard and was a true outdoorsman at heart. He was a long-time member of Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Imogene Thrift Tatum; five sisters, Lola Crawford, Lois Tatum Douglas, Ruby Tatum Griffis, Ida McDaniel, Margaret Tatum Douglas; three brothers, Elmer Tatum, Sammy Tatum and Adel Tatum.
Mr. Tatum is survived by two daughters, Gloria Tatum Lyons and her husband, Ronald, of Brantley County, Laura Tatum Krulic and her husband, Bart, of Greenville, S.C.; three grandchildren, April R. Lyons of Waycross, Ashley K. Lyons of Brantley County, Charlie Bartol “Quaid” Krulic, IV and wife, Stella, of Greenville, S.C.; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Monday, November 14 in the Miles-Odum Funeral Home Chapel. Littlefield Construction staff workers serve as honorary pallbearers. Burial followed in Kettle Creek Cemetery.
Visitation was from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Miles-Odum Funeral Home.
