Joseph Wilburn Mason

WAYCROSS — Mr. Joseph Wilburn Mason, 67, of Waycross died Thursday evening, October 27, 2022, at Memorial Satilla Health after a brief illness.

He was born in Clearwater, Fla. to the late Joe Mason and Mary Bass Mason. For the past 30 years, Mr. Mason had called Waycross home, but has traveled all over the United States with his wife and children ministering through their Sword and Shield Ministry. When he was not on the road, he attended The Bethesda House of Mercy in Waycross, and Bride of Christ Church in Callahan, Fla.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a self-proclaimed “Jack-of-all-trades, Master-of-none,” who loved his relationships with people and loved to make them laugh. Throughout his life, Mr. Mason was devoted to his family and the word of God. He was a dedicated and loving husband and father, who cherished his family and every moment he was able to spend with them. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Mary Mason.

Mr. Mason is survived by his wife, Liz Mason of Waycross; four children, Sarah Crase of Waycross, Mellissa Tirrell and her husband, James, of Winslow, Maine, Justin Mason and his fiancé, Betty Revels, of Waycross, and Heather Freeman of Chesapeake, Via.;, eight grandchildren, Michael Strom, Tyler Strom, Elizabeth Conley, Gabriel Freeman, Lilyana Freeman, Jeremia Revels, Alex Revels and Selina Revels; one brother, Ray Mason and his wife, Teresa; one sister, Brenda Mason; and numerous other relatives.

The family received friends from 10 a.m. to noon Wednesday, November 2, at the Bethesda House of Mercy, 1700 Osceola Ave., Waycross.

The Celebration of Life BBQ was held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, November 3, the following day at the at the Bethesda House of Mercy.
