Voting results in South Georgia were pretty much in sync with eventual winners across Georgia during Tuesday’s General Election.
Republican candidates dominated the Democrat opposition in the area by a near average unofficially of 90 percent to 10%. State-wide totals cut the margins to smaller margins of victory.
Governor Brian Kemp garnered 73.09% of the vote in Ware County, 90.04% in Pierce County, 92.44% in Brantley County, and 89.01% in Bacon County in his race with Democrat Stacey Abrams. The final margin was 53% for Kemp to 47% for Abrams.
Republican U.S. Senate candidate Herschel Walker easily carried the four-county area against incumbent Raphael Warnock with 70.74% of the vote in Ware, 88.25% in Pierce, 90.23% in Brantley, and 86.36% in Bacon.
There will be a runoff between the two with neither candidate receiving more than 50% of the votes. Warnock, who dominated the northern part of the state, collected 49.4% to Walker’s 48.5%.
Republican incumbent District 1 House of Representatives “Buddy” Carter captured 73.78% of the votes in Ware, 90.35% in Pierce, 92.61% in Brantley and 89.20% in Bacon against Democrat foe Wade Herring.
For Secretary of State, incumbent Republican Brad Raffensperger collected 72.21% of Ware County votes, 88.13% in Pierce, 89.97% in Brantley, and 87.25% in Bacon County in his race with Democrat Bee Nguyen. Raffensperger received 53.3% across the state to Nguyen’s 40%.
For Commissioner of Agriculture to fill Gary Black’s position, Republican Tyler Harper finished with 73.36% in Ware, 90.23 in Pierce, 91.6% in Brantley, and 90.07% in Bacon against Democrat Nakita Hemingway. Harper finished with 52.9% across the state to win over Hemingway’s 44.9%.
For State School Superintendent, incumbent Republican Richard Woods received 73.71% of the votes in Ware, 90.75% in Pierce, 92.37% in Brantley, and 89.44% in Bacon in the race against Democrat Alisha Thomas Searcy. The margin was 54.2% to 45.8% across the state for Woods.
Incumbent Republican Lieutenant Governor Burt Jones netted 72.20% of Ware County votes, 89.17% in Pierce, 91.71% in Brantley, and 88.03% in Bacon against Democrat Charlie Bailey. Jones finished with 51.4% across the state with Bailey at 46.5%.
For Attorney General, incumbent Republican Chris Carr captured 72.24% in Ware, 89.15% in Pierce, 90.91% in Brantley, and 88.08% in Bacon against Democrat Jennifer “Jen” Jordan. Carr has 51.8% across the state to Jordan’s 46.7%.
A number of candidates were running unopposed locally so their seats were assured following the Primary Election in May.
