Welcome back from the fall break, everyone. This week’s PCHS Bear Facts is a listing of hot topics for the week spanning October 12-18, 2022. Today is make-up picture day for underclassmen.

Congrats to PCHS FFA, which had three teams place in recent competitions. The Meats Evaluation team of Allison Bowers, Regan Clements, Maggie Thorne, and Garrett Page won first place in region competition. Meanwhile, the Junior Meat Judging Team of Laney Herrin, Abigail Norman, Nathan McSwain and Gabby Herrin placed second in region. The Land Evaluation team of Darbin Sanchez, Kirsten Morgan, Rolston Taylor and Pierce Sinclair placed 1st in Region.
Meats Evaluation will compete for the state in November in Athens and Land Evaluation will compete in the state competition next week in Perry. Congratulations, Ag Bears!

FCCLA is traveling today, attending their fall rally at the Georgia National Fair in Perry. Hats off to Mrs. Jacobs and Mrs. Day, as they are always leading some sort of fun activity. This week’s slate of happenings also includes pumpkin carving after school.

FBLA holds its regular meeting today (Wednesday), immediately after school in Mrs. Whitaker’s room.

Here is an important word on health from our school nurse, Mrs. Paige King: If you have headaches, nausea and body aches especially, you could have the flu even if you don’t have an increased temperature. Know the symptoms and exercise caution.

This Friday, October 14, PCHS will be giving the ASVAB test. This is the aptitude test for the U.S. Military. Friday is also the last day of the first 9 weeks’ grading period.

Friday, October 14 is also the deadline to turn in applications for freshman class officers. See Mrs. Bridget Delaney or Mrs. Rhonda Bennett.
FFA members will be traveling to the Sunbelt Ag Expo in Moultrie on Wednesday, October 19. See Mr. Ratliff or Mr. Prescott for more information.
The deadline to submit your senior page info for the yearbook is Friday, October 21. Get your info packet from Mrs. Malayna in room 123.
Make-up day for Driver’s Ed classes that were canceled due to the threat of Hurricane Ian will be Saturday, October 22. See Mr. Erik Thumann for more information.
The first-ever volleyball Seniors Night took place this past Monday. We salute Lacy Leggett and Miracle Brewton for their leadership this season! Volleyball competes in the area tournament this Saturday at Toombs County High School.
Lady Bears softball is in action at home today, 6 p.m. versus Brantley County and again tomorrow (Thursday) at 6 p.m. versus Glynn Academy. Cross Country runs today at Coffee High School. The boys run at 4:30 this afternoon, the girls at 5 p.m. JV football takes on Lanier County Thursday at 5 p.m. On Saturday, the competition cheerleaders travel to Jeff Davis.
Under the Friday night lights, the varsity Bears return from a bye week to host Toombs County at 7:30 p.m. Student tickets will be on sale at lunch during the week. General admission tickets are available online at GoFan.co. This week will be the annual cancer awareness game. Fans are asked to “pink out” the stadium. You can listen to the game on radio station 97.7 FM (streaming online at waycrossradio.com. You can also catch the video livestream via the NFHS Network. Subscription rates apply. Wrestling pre-season workouts take place every Tuesday and Thursday from 3:45 until 5 p.m. after school until regular wrestling practice begins Oct. 24. The annual weight analysis will be in Douglas on Thursday, November 3. The bus leaves from PCHS at 3:50 p.m. that day. Anyone who wants to wrestle this season needs to be on that bus. See Coach Hilton if you have questions.

Also on October 24: Basketball tryouts for boys and girls will be held after school in the gym.

The PSAT will be given at PCHS on Tuesday, Oct 25th, to 10th grade Honor Literature students as well as any regular Lit students who sign up to take it. The test will be held in the cafeteria and will last from 8:15 until 11:30. Students will sign up for the test in their 10th Lit classes.

The next Student Council meeting will be Thursday, Oct. 27 at 7:50 a.m.
