WAYCROSS — Mrs. Gilda Wilson Dixon, 92, passed away Wednesday, September 21, 2022, at the Hospice House Satilla following a short illness.
Gilda was born in the Bickley Community to the late Alfred Jack Wilson and Alma Roberts Wilson. Although she was a member of Central Baptist Church in Waycross, she was raised in Bickley United Methodist Church. She attended Candler Nursing School in Savannah, and received her Bachelor of Science in nursing from Georgia Southwestern College. She was the director of nursing at Pierce County Hospital, and worked as a nurse at St. Joseph’s/Candler in Savannah. She also worked for Memorial Hospital in Waycross in the emergency room and recovery room for many years before retiring as a teacher from South Georgia College.
In addition to her parents, was also was preceded in death by her sister, Joan Wilson Carter.
She is survived by her husband, Reavis E. Dixon of Waycross; two daughters, Dr. Catherine “Kitty” Sullivan of Macclenny, Fla., and Talethia Knight, J.D. (Mike Martin) of Bickley; and two grandchildren, Jack Sullivan of San Francisco, Calif., and Alexandria Weekley of Athens, Ga.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. today (Saturday, September 24, 2022) at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery. The family will begin receiving friends at 10 a.m Saturday at the funeral home.
