Margaret James Howell

BAXLEY — Mrs. Margaret James Howell, 92, died Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Appling Healthcare System in Baxley.

She was a native of Pierce County, but lived most of her life in Waycross. Mrs. Howell graduated from Pierce County High School, and she received her Masters in Education from Valdosta State University and Georgia Southern University. She retired from Ware County School Systems after 30 years of service as a teacher.

She was the owner of Dodge City Mall in Pierce County. Mrs. Howell formerly attended Second Baptist Church, and she was a member of the Georgia Teachers Association.

Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her parents, Ben James and Leona Dubberly James Byrd; her husband, David Scholey Howell (married March 8, 1947); daughter, Barbara Jean Howell Edwards; grandson, Jimmy Dean Howell; sister, Margie Braddy; and brothers, Bert and Bennie James.

Survivors include two children, James David Howell, Jr. and Cecelia Howell Campbell (Ronnie) both of Baxley; five grandchildren, Sherrie Edwards, Olivia Edwards, Chad Edwards, Andy Campbell, and Naomi Howell; six great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; one sister, Mildred Howard of Waycross; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, September 16, 2022 at the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Oakland Cemetery.

The family will receive friends the hour prior to Friday’s service at the funeral home.
