WAYCROSS — Mr. James Robert “Bud” Bryson, 79, died Monday afternoon, October 3, 2022, at Memorial Satilla Health.
He was a native of Appling County, but he graduated from Ware County High School in 1961. Bud served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War for three years. After his military service, Bud was employed by the City of Waycross Police Department, and he retired after 30 years of service. After retirement, he worked as a security guard for South Georgia College in Douglas. Bud was an excellent athlete and sports fanatic, and he loved playing football and baseball. In 1960, he was awarded the George Fesperman Blocking Trophy as a lineman.
Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Kermit Bryson and Azalee Godwin Bryson; and siblings, Arlene Bryson Lovett, D.B. “Doc” Bryson and Clyde Bryson.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Sara Joyce Phillips Bryson of Waycross; one sister, Josephine Burke (late husband Charles) of Waycross; one brother, Curtis Bryson (Patsy) of Princeton, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A graveside service was held at 3 p.m. Thursday, October 6, 2022, at Piney Grove Cemetery in Appling County. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Music Funeral Home.
